MAJOR ATTRACTIONS & VIEWPOINTS




BEAVER BOARDWALK

Located in Hinton by Maxwell Lake – this is a must see!  Spot beavers, watch them build and eat.  The 1.5km Beaver Boardwalk allows you to explore this wetland ecosystem and enjoying the beautiful scenery.


BRULE SAND DUNES

The Brule Sand Dunes are located west of Hinton off of Hwy.16.  Signs are posted on Hwy. 16 as well as in the Wildhorse Provincial Recreation Area.  Trails can be used by OHVs, hikers and horseback riders.  Trail conditions are weather dependent.  Respect the land and use appropriate trails.  Not accessible from Brule.


CADOMIN & THE CADOMIN CAVE

Cadomin is a hamlet located 50km down Hwy. 40 South.  Its year-round population is under 150.  There is a general store/café full of history.

The Cadomin Cave is currently closed to the public in attempt to stop the spread of white-nose syndrome that is lethal to bats.


CARDINAL DIVIDE

The Cardinal Divide is approximately 20 km from Cadomin along the Grave Flats Road and offers spectacular mountain views.  At Mountain Park the haul road veers right, while the Grave Flats Road crosses the McLeod River twice then begins its ascent to the Cardinal Divide.  It’s worth the drive!  Road conditions are weather dependent.


HINTON BIKE PARK
Located on Robb Road, this park has something to offer for every skill level.  Free for all - open dawn until dusk.


OGRE CANYON

Accessed from Brule.  Take Hwy. 40 North to Brule turnoff.  Drive straight through Brule, through horse lease, leaving gates as found.  Park at staging area that is located approximately 7 km from Brule.  Road conditions are weather dependent - Four wheel drive vehicles are HIGHLY recommended.  You can also walk or bike 7km to get to the Ogre Canyon area.


WILLIAM A. SWITZER PARK

Follow Hwy. 40 North (approximately 20 mins) until you reach William A. Switzer Provincial Park.  The park includes 5 lakes, Jarvis, Blue, Gregg, Cache and Graveyard.  There is a Visitor Information Centre located at Kelly’s Bathtub to provide more information regarding hiking trails, canoeing, day use areas and camping.
